On-Page vs. Off-Page SEO: What’s the Difference?

It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of getting as many visitors as possible to your website by increasing its ranking in search engines like Google and Bing. There are two main ways you can do this: on-page SEO, which refers to the content of your site and blog posts, and off-page SEO, which includes all the other links pointing to your site from external websites, such as those shared on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. When you combine these two types of SEO together, you get overall SEO.

1) On-Page SEO

On-page SEO is optimizing your website to rank higher in search engine results. This includes choosing the right keywords, using them throughout your site (in titles, metatags, etc.), and making sure your site is easy to navigate and index. On-page SEO can be done for any size company or blog; it just takes a little know-how and time. A couple of on-page SEO tips include a keyword in your title tag so that when people search for that term, they find you at the top of their list. Also, use relevant keywords throughout your content so that Google knows what you’re trying to say and ranks you accordingly.

2) Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO refers to all activities you can do outside of your website to help improve your search engine rankings. This includes link building, social media engagement, and creating content for other websites. Some believe off-page SEO is more important than on-page SEO because it helps create a better online presence. Others argue that this couldn’t be further from the truth. The truth is, both are extremely important in their ways. The most common off-page SEO strategy marketers use is called link building. Link building entails exchanging links with sites with good search engine rankings so they will also link to your site.

3) Understanding how they work together

Regarding SEO, there are two main types: on-page and off-page. Both are important for ranking your website in search engines, but they work differently. Off-page SEO is about getting links from other websites, while on-page SEO is about content optimization. You can do both simultaneously, though you might want to start with one type before doing the other because it can be a lot of work. The best way to figure out which one you should focus on first is by looking at what kind of site you have. If you already have a good amount of traffic coming to your site, then you probably just need an Ottawa SEO expert who will optimize your current page for better rankings.

4) The Goal of Search Engine Optimization

The goal of search engine optimization is to improve the visibility of a website in search engine results pages (SERPs). This can be done through optimizing the website content, structure, and on-page elements like titles, metatags, and anchor text, as well as developing off-page SEO tactics like link building and brand mentions. On-page SEO refers to all these efforts with a specific page or post in mind. Meanwhile, off-page SEO refers to working on your site’s rank across the entire web by getting links from other sites and increasing traffic with social media marketing. You can also increase the reach of your services SEO by buying advertising space on sites like Google Adwords.

5) How to Get Started with Both On & Off-Page Optimization

Here’s a quick overview of both optimization strategies and how you can get started. On-page optimization refers to elements found within your website or blog post. These include content, meta tags, URL structure, alt text, etc. On-page optimization aims to provide information that search engines use to understand your content and rank it accordingly for relevant queries. To help search engines better understand your content, there are also things you can do outside of your website, like link building (or off-page SEO). Link building refers to linking back from other sites or social media profiles to yours – the more links back to your site, the higher up in search engine rankings will be listed for related keywords. Think of it as a popularity contest where links act as votes!
